SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Profile, Nucleocapsid and Spike

This test measures two specific types of antibodies in your blood to evaluate your immune history regarding the virus that causes COVID-19. Since vaccines typically create antibodies against the viral spike protein only, detecting antibodies against the nucleocapsid protein helps show if you have had a natural infection. This distinction helps doctors understand if your immune response comes from vaccination, past illness, or both. It is important to note that this test cannot diagnose a current, active COVID-19 infection.
