Anticardiolipin Antibodies (ACA), IgA, IgG, IgM, Quantitative
This test measures specific antibodies in the blood that mistakenly attack cardiolipin, a substance found on the surface of cells and platelets. It helps show if the immune system is creating proteins that increase the risk of abnormal blood clots or pregnancy complications. Doctors use this test to help evaluate for antiphospholipid syndrome, an autoimmune clotting disorder. However, it cannot diagnose a condition on its own because infections can cause temporary changes in these levels, often requiring a retest to confirm the results.
