This test detects antibodies to Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus types 1 and 2 (HTLV-1 and HTLV-2) in your blood. It helps show whether you have been infected with these viruses, which target the immune system and can be spread through blood or sexual contact. This screening is useful for evaluating the cause of certain rare blood cancers or nerve disorders and is standard for blood donation safety. However, a positive result only indicates exposure to the virus and does not confirm that you currently have an active disease or will develop symptoms in the future.
