Liver-Kidney Microsomal (LKM) Antibodies
This test measures the level of Liver-Kidney Microsomal (LKM) antibodies in your blood, which are proteins the immune system creates that mistakenly attack liver cells. It helps show whether liver inflammation is caused by an autoimmune reaction, specifically looking for a condition called autoimmune hepatitis type 2. Doctors use this result to help distinguish autoimmune liver disease from other causes of liver damage. However, this test cannot diagnose a condition by itself, as these antibodies can also be found in people with hepatitis C or may be absent even when disease is present.
