> This test measures antibodies to the nucleocapsid protein, a specific internal part of the virus that causes COVID-19. Because most vaccines target a different part of the virus, this test helps identify if you have had a natural infection in the past, regardless of your vaccination status. It is useful for confirming prior exposure to the virus even if you did not experience symptoms. However, this test cannot diagnose a current, active illness and does not detect immunity resulting solely from vaccination.
