This test looks for specific antibodies in your blood that the immune system creates to fight Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV-2). It helps determine if you have previously been infected with the virus most often responsible for genital herpes. This information is useful for understanding your carrier status, even if you do not currently have symptoms. While it detects past exposure, this test cannot tell you exactly when the infection occurred or confirm if a specific current sore is an active herpes outbreak.
