Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Types 1 and 2-Specific Antibodies, IgG

This test measures specific antibodies your immune system creates in response to Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) types 1 and 2. It helps determine if you have been infected with the virus in the past, which is important because many people carry the virus without ever developing visible sores or blisters. These results help distinguish between the two viral types and can rule out prior exposure if no antibodies are detected. However, this blood test cannot identify exactly when you were infected, where the infection is located on your body, or if a specific current symptom is caused by an active outbreak.
