Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus 1, 2 (HTLV-1/HTLV-2) Differentiation
This test measures specific antibodies in the blood to distinguish between Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus type 1 (HTLV-1) and type 2 (HTLV-2). It is typically performed after an initial screening test shows a reactive result to confirm the infection and identify exactly which virus is present. This helps doctors differentiate between the two types, as HTLV-1 is associated with certain nerve and blood disorders while HTLV-2 is less commonly linked to severe illness. This test is not used for general screening and cannot predict if or when specific symptoms will develop.
