Anticentromere B Antibodies

This test measures the level of anticentromere B antibodies, which are proteins the immune system creates that mistakenly target parts of the body’s own cells. It is primarily used to investigate symptoms like skin tightening or extreme sensitivity to cold in the fingers and toes. Detecting these antibodies helps doctors distinguish between limited systemic sclerosis (formerly called CREST syndrome) and other autoimmune connective tissue diseases. However, a positive result alone does not confirm a diagnosis and must be evaluated alongside a physical exam and other clinical findings.
