# Apolipoprotein B

> This test measures the amount of Apolipoprotein B (Apo B), a protein found on cholesterol particles that can build up in your arteries. Because every particle that causes plaque buildup carries one Apo B protein, this test provides a more accurate count of the cholesterol that can clog arteries than standard tests alone. It helps doctors evaluate your risk for developing atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. However, this test alone does not diagnose a specific heart condition or predict exactly when a heart attack might occur.
