This test detects the genetic material of three bacteria that cause sexually transmitted infections: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Mycoplasma genitalium. It helps identify the specific cause of symptoms like pain or discharge and, if Mycoplasma genitalium is found, checks if the bacteria are resistant to certain antibiotics. This allows doctors to rule out other sources of infection and select the most effective medication. However, this test does not screen for other sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis or HIV.
