This test looks for Yersinia enterocolitica, a specific type of bacteria, in a stool sample. It helps show whether this bacteria is causing symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain, which can sometimes mimic appendicitis. This measurement helps distinguish a Yersinia infection from other causes of food poisoning or digestive distress. It does not detect other types of bacteria, viruses, or parasites that might cause similar symptoms.
