Cryptococcus Antigen

This test detects specific proteins, called antigens, released by the Cryptococcus fungus into your body. It helps show whether this fungus is the cause of symptoms like severe headaches, fever, or confusion. This information assists doctors in distinguishing a fungal infection from other causes of illness, such as bacterial or viral meningitis. However, this test alone cannot determine the severity of the infection or predict how well you will respond to treatment.
