> This test detects antinuclear antibodies (ANA), which are proteins produced by the immune system that can mistakenly attack the body's own tissues. It helps investigate symptoms such as unexplained fatigue, joint pain, or skin rashes that may suggest an autoimmune disorder. If antibodies are found, the test automatically checks for specific markers to help identify conditions like lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, or scleroderma. While useful for screening, a positive result does not confirm a diagnosis by itself, as infections or certain medications can also cause antibody levels to rise.
