> This test detects antinuclear antibodies (ANA), which are proteins made by the immune system that can mistakenly attack the body's own tissues. It is useful for evaluating symptoms like chronic fatigue, joint pain, or fever that may indicate an autoimmune condition. If the initial screening is positive, the test automatically looks for specific markers to help distinguish between different connective tissue diseases. A positive result does not diagnose a specific illness by itself, as these antibodies can also appear in healthy individuals or due to certain medications.
