# AST and Platelets with APRI

> This test combines a measurement of a liver enzyme called AST with a count of your platelets to calculate a score known as the APRI. This score helps doctors estimate the amount of scarring, or fibrosis, in your liver caused by conditions like hepatitis C or fatty liver disease. It helps show whether you are at high or low risk for severe liver damage and cirrhosis. However, this calculation is an estimation tool and does not replace a liver biopsy or diagnose the specific cause of liver injury by itself.
