Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), β-Subunit, Quantitative (Serial Monitor)
This test measures the exact amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced during pregnancy or by certain types of tissue, in your blood. Doctors use these results to track how hormone levels change over time, which helps monitor the health of a pregnancy or the effectiveness of treatment for specific conditions. This comparison helps distinguish between a progressing pregnancy and complications such as a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. However, this test cannot determine the exact location of a pregnancy or diagnose a specific disease without additional examinations.
