Cancer Antigen (CA) 27.29 (Serial Monitor)
This test measures the level of CA 27.29, a protein often released into the bloodstream by breast cancer cells. It is primarily used to monitor patients currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer to determine if the therapy is working or if the disease is returning. By tracking changes in this level over time, doctors can better understand if the cancer is stable or progressing. However, this test cannot be used to screen for breast cancer or diagnose it on its own, as certain non-cancerous conditions can also cause high levels.
