Androstanediol Glucuronide (Endocrine Sciences)

This test measures the level of androstanediol glucuronide, a substance produced when the body processes male hormones in the skin and hair follicles. It helps show how active these hormones are within body tissues, which is useful for evaluating unexplained excessive hair growth or acne in women. This measurement helps doctors distinguish between conditions where the skin is overreacting to hormones and conditions involving high hormone production in the ovaries or adrenal glands. However, this test cannot identify the specific underlying disease causing the hormone imbalance without additional blood work.
