Anti-Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG), Serum

This test measures antibodies targeting myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), a protein located on the protective covering of nerves in the central nervous system. It helps show whether the immune system is mistakenly attacking this protein, which is often relevant for patients experiencing sudden vision loss or spinal cord inflammation. Testing helps doctors distinguish MOG-related conditions from other autoimmune disorders like Multiple Sclerosis or Neuromyelitis Optica. However, this test cannot predict the severity of future attacks or provide a diagnosis without a complete physical examination.
