This test measures the amount of Serum Amyloid A (SAA), a protein your liver releases when there is injury or infection in the body. It helps show the severity of inflammation, which is useful for monitoring chronic inflammatory diseases or tracking recovery from an infection. Doctors use these results to assess the risk of secondary amyloidosis, a condition where proteins build up in tissues. While this test confirms the presence of inflammation, it does not identify the specific disease or location causing the reaction.
