This test measures the specific amount of Hepatitis C virus genetic material in your blood, commonly known as the viral load. It helps show how active the infection is and allows doctors to monitor how well antiviral treatments are working. This information helps distinguish between an active, multiplying infection and one that is responding to medication. However, this test only counts the virus and does not measure the amount of physical damage or scarring in the liver.
