This test measures the specific amount of genetic material from the hepatitis C virus present in your blood. It is often used to monitor how active the virus is or to track how well medications are working to lower the viral count. By determining the viral load, this test helps show whether the infection is currently spreading or being suppressed. However, it only counts the virus and does not determine the extent of liver damage or scarring caused by the infection.
