> This test measures the amount of genetic material from the Hepatitis C virus in your blood to determine the viral load. It helps show whether you have a current, active infection, which is often checked after a screening test detects antibodies. This measurement helps distinguish between an active infection and a past infection that your body has already cleared. However, it does not measure the extent of liver damage or predict how the disease will progress over time.
