β-Lactoglobulin

This test measures the level of antibodies in the blood that react to beta-lactoglobulin, a protein found in the whey of cow’s milk. It helps show whether the immune system recognizes this specific protein as harmful, which aids in evaluating the cause of milk allergy symptoms. Identifying this specific sensitivity helps distinguish reactions to whey from reactions to other milk proteins like casein. However, this test alone cannot diagnose lactose intolerance or predict exactly how severe an allergic reaction will be.
