> This test looks for the genetic material of Chlamydia trachomatis, the bacteria that causes chlamydia. It helps show whether you have an active infection, which is often necessary because many people carry the bacteria without showing symptoms. This measurement helps distinguish chlamydia from other infections that cause similar issues, such as urinary tract infections. However, this test only screens for chlamydia and does not detect other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea or HIV.
