α-Lactalbumin
This test measures the level of specific antibodies in the blood that react to alpha-lactalbumin, a major protein found in cow’s milk. It helps determine if this protein is the cause of allergic symptoms, such as hives, swelling, or digestive distress. This information helps doctors distinguish a specific milk protein allergy from other food sensitivities. While it detects sensitization, this test alone cannot diagnose lactose intolerance or predict the severity of an allergic reaction.
