Galactose-Alpha-1,3-Galactose (Alpha-Gal), IgE, Serum
This test measures the amount of IgE antibodies your immune system creates against Alpha-Gal, a sugar found in red meat and mammal products. It helps show whether a delayed allergic reaction to foods like beef, pork, or lamb might be caused by this specific sensitivity, which is often linked to tick bites. This measurement assists doctors in distinguishing Alpha-Gal syndrome from other causes of unexplained hives or severe allergic reactions. However, having these antibodies does not guarantee you have an active allergy, so results must be reviewed alongside your medical history and symptoms.
