Carnitine, Total and Free
This test measures the levels of carnitine in your blood, a substance that helps your body convert fat into energy. It is useful for evaluating symptoms such as chronic muscle weakness, low blood sugar, or failure to grow properly. These results help determine if a carnitine deficiency or a metabolic disorder is preventing your cells from producing enough energy. However, this test alone cannot identify the specific genetic cause of a deficiency or diagnose every type of metabolic disease.
