# Chromium and Cobalt, Whole Blood

> This test measures the levels of chromium and cobalt in your blood. It is primarily used for patients with metal-on-metal joint replacements to check if the implant is wearing down and releasing metal particles into the body. Monitoring these levels helps doctors determine if joint pain or swelling is caused by the device malfunctioning. However, this test cannot predict exactly how your tissues will react to the metal or diagnose specific damage to the joint without additional imaging.
